Fraud Investigation - Chargeback Process : Implementation Phase– (Apr 2013 – Feb 2014), Riverwoods, Illinois, USA

Client

Discover Financial Services, USA

Industry

Banking and Financial Services

Role

BPM Architect

Team Size

7

Technology

IBM BPM V8.0.1, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Dojo, Unix-AIX

Synopsis:

The objective of this assignment is to design and implement the chargeback process using IBM BPM V8.0.1. There is an existing system (FIAT) for complete fraud investigations functionality and IBM BPM will be implementing a subset of fraud investigations functionality in phase-I and eventually replacing the complete FIAT application in subsequent phases.

Technical Challenges:

·   Making BPM application work in parallel to the existing system (FIAT).

·   Share the existing database with FIAT

·   Integrate IBM BPM with one Java -Swing application(DCDS) which is a front end application for merchant related disputes

Responsibilities:

·   Understanding the IT landscape for Fraud investigations unit of client organization

·   Doing requirement analysis for overall application

·   Coming up with a two phase approach for the complete FIAT replacement with IBM BPM

o   Phase-I:  Must have functionalities for business to work on the chargeback cases

o   Phase-II: Include other type of fraud cases and nice to have features

·   Overall solution architecture and design for the application which includes below:

Divided the overall functionality into below categories:

1.                       Java Batch Processes to get data feeds from different systems

2.                       BPM Process application which includes core chargeback process, UI, business rules, reports dashboards etc

3.                       Use FIAT webservice to utilize existing functionalities

4.                       Integrate with existing DCDS application with minimal impact on DCDS side

·   Coordinating with architects of other applications to finalize the design to fit BPM into existing landscape.

·   Modelling the business process in process designer

o   Capturing all activities for the process

o   Defining task routing

o   Defining system lane services which can be taken out of the human service to reduce human service response

o   Used message events & UCAs to get case updates from other related systems

·   Developing coaches:

o   Developed custom coach views to get desired UI behavior

o   Used tabbed coaches to segregate huge data

o   Applied custom look and feel using CSS

·   Building the custom landing page for business users as management doesn’t want agents to do cherry picking of the cases and push the case to the agent based on the priority. So instead of showing default work list in the portal, user will use custom task assignment service which will find the highest priority task and load the UI in the same frame. Once task is completed, user should be redirected to the same landing page.

·   Integration with FIAT system using web service

·   Launching Java-Swing application from BPM screens using Java web start

·   Database Design

·   Identifying business data to be stored for reporting purpose

·   Application specific logging using log4j instead of using out of the box WAS logging

·   Exception Handling: Implemented a robust exception handling to make sure no business cases are lost due to system error.

·   Notification services for business as well as support team

·   Establishing best practices

·   Mentoring other team members
